General
What equipment do I need?
A measurement microphone, an audio interface with the mic input and speaker outputs on the same device, and a computer running Windows 10+ or macOS 11+.
What calibration microphone do you recommend?
The beyerdynamic MM 1 is the value pick and covers most rooms well. If you measure other people’s rooms, need mics that match each other, or want a calibration file traceable to the individual unit, step up to the Earthworks M23R. Both are omnidirectional XLR condensers and need an interface with phantom power. If your system has no XLR input, the USB miniDSP UMIK-2 is the alternative — but note the wizard currently needs the mic input and speaker outputs on one device, which an Aggregate Device solves on macOS today while Windows needs the two-device update that is coming next.

From stereo to 7.1.4 Atmos and beyond. Depending on your license tier, you can have 2 to unlimited speaker groups, each with its own primary and support speakers.
Does it work with subwoofers?
Yes, subwoofer integration is a core feature. Perfect Soup optimizes the crossover between main speakers and subs, aligning phase and timing for seamless bass response.
What subwoofer should I get, and how many?
Our turnkey recommendation is the SVS SB-1000 Pro, and we suggest planning for four of them — one in each corner — before considering anything more expensive. Uneven bass is a problem of position, not output, so four modest subs at four independent positions beat a single flagship costing the same. Two is the biggest single step if four is not in the budget yet.

What is a “support”?
A support is a supporting speaker within a speaker group. For example, in a stereo pair with a subwoofer, the subwoofer counts as one support.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes, on either plan. Perpetual holders pay the upgrade price for the higher tier — use the Upgrade button on any higher-tier card. Rent to Own moves up from your dashboard with nothing to pay on the day: the payments you have already made carry over as credit toward the new tier, and your plan simply runs a little longer at the new monthly rate. Either way you never pay more than the higher tier costs.
What about calibration?
Perpetual licenses include 1 year of calibration access. Rent-to-own plans include calibration as part of the monthly fee. Standalone calibration extension is available for $49 for 30 days or $69 for 365 days.
Do prices include tax?
No. Listed prices exclude tax. VAT, GST or sales tax is calculated and added at checkout once you enter your billing country, so the amount depends on where you are — many countries add nothing. VAT-registered businesses can enter a tax ID at checkout.
Do I get free updates?
Yes. All license holders receive free lifetime software updates for as long as Umami Audio continues to develop Perfect Soup.
Refund policy
You can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase (or any longer period required by consumer-protection law in your country) by emailing [email protected]. We recommend using the free 60-day trial first to confirm the product and system requirements fit your setup.
License transfer
Perpetual licenses can be transferred to another user for a $20 fee.
